IRONMAN 70.3 Gulf Coast in Panama City Beach is a popular early-season triathlon featuring a 1.2-mile ocean swim in the Gulf of Mexico, a fast and flat 56-mile bike ride through scenic Florida pines, and a 13.1-mile run along the coastline, all based at Edgewater Beach & Golf Resort. Recognized as one of the oldest half-distance triathlons in the continental U.S., the event attracts athletes ranging from first-timers to seasoned competitors.

The single-loop, rolling start swim course is held in saltwater and can bring both calm conditions or strong currents for a challenge. The non-technical, fast bike course — open to some traffic — invites competitive speeds and personal records. The spectator-friendly, three-loop run course along the beachfront has limited shade and often features warm temperatures, making hydration and pacing essential.

Athletes have a total of 8.5 hours to finish, with segment cutoffs of 1 hour 10 minutes for the swim, 5 hours 30 minutes for the swim plus bike, and 8 hours 30 minutes for the full race. Known for its coastal beauty and strong community support, IRONMAN 70.3 Gulf Coast delivers a race-day atmosphere that’s as challenging as it is memorable for both participants and spectators.
